Back in February, Konami announced that they are once again collaborating with Bloober Team on a new game. While it wasn’t confirmed whether this is for a new IP or another Silent Hill remake, the success of the Silent Hill 2 remake led people to believe it would be another re-imagining of the publisher’s horror franchise.
If you guessed it would be another Silent Hill remake, you’ll be glad to know that you’re correct, though it’s an easy guess to make.
The announcement was made as part of today’s Konami Press Start broadcast. Ending the show with a bang, Konami finally confirmed Bloober Team’s project, and it’s a remake of the first Silent Hill game.
In case anyone gets confused, Konami made the announcement on the official Silent Hill X (formerly Twitter) account as well.
Via machine translation, the announcement reads, “SILENT HILL” remake in the works. We are currently working with Bloober Team on a remake of “SILENT HILL,” which was released for PlayStation in 1999. Please await further updates for further details.”
Released in 1999 on the PS1, Silent Hill kickstarted Konami’s horror franchise and was the company’s answer to Capcom’s Resident Evil franchise.
In the first Silent Hill, players control Harry Mason as he searches for his missing adopted daughter in the fictional town of Silent Hill. Mason stumbles upon a cult conducting a rite to revive a deity, and the story spirals into a dark path, which we won’t spoil for you.
While we can’t say for certain what kind of changes Bloober Team will make to the original, based on the Silent Hill 2 remake, I assume we’ll see combat changes, enemy placement will be reconfigured to add an element of surprise, and more. I’m curious to know if Bloober plans to make any changes to the game’s five endings, and if so, what kind of changes will be implemented.
If you’ve yet to play the Silent Hill 2 remake released last year, you might want to change that ASAP. Our review, like everyone else’s, is very positive about the changes made by Bloober. “The improved graphics, acting, and soundtrack create an authentically horrifying experience that brings pride to the original,” it states.
