Top gainers, losers today April 23, 2025: IT stocks outperform on hopes of easing US-China trade war, J&K Bank, hotel stocks dip amid Pahalgam terror attack TechTricks365


IT stocks continued to outperform amid optimism that US-China trade tensions could ease. HCL Technology, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Wipro and TCS led the gainers of Nifty 50 components, while Grasim Industries, Kotak Mahindra, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank and Eicher Motors declined.

Sensex gained 324.69 points or 0.41 per cent to 79,920.28 at 1.05 pm after opening at 80,142.09, and Nifty 50 rose 96.35 points or 0.4 per cent to 24,263.60.

Sectoral indices showed mixed movement, with bank stocks facing the maximum selling pressure. Nifty Bank dipped 0.78 per cent, while Nifty IT surged 4.41 per cent to 35,439 at the time of writing.

The volatility index rose 4.12 per cent to 15.86. Smallcap indexes dipped, while midcap stocks showed resilience.

A total of 2,802 stocks were traded on the National Stock Exchange, of which 1,112 advanced and 1,626 declined.

Top gainers & losers today

HCL Tech shares led the gainers with 8.05 per cent jump to ₹1,599 (close to intraday high of ₹1,600) following Q4 results. Tech Mahindra followed with 4.14 per cent surge to ₹1,433.50. Infosys, Wipro and TCS soared close to 4 per cent.

Auto major Tata Motors also gained 3.61 per cent to ₹653.60.

On the flip side, Grasim Industries fell 2.11 per cent to ₹2,691.30. Kotak Mahindra dropped 2.06 per cent to ₹2,222.10. The stock, on April 22, hit a 52-week high of ₹2,301.90.

HDFC Bank followed with 1.77 per cent decline to ₹1,926.90 after hitting a 52-week high of ₹1,978.90 today. In addition, JK Cement and Laurus Labs were among 41 stocks that hit 52-week high.

Banking stocks Canara Bank, SBI, Bank of Baroda, PNB and Federal Bank also declined.

About 95 stocks hit upper circuit, while 33 hit the lower band.

Stocks in action

Among microcap, Zinka Logistics Solutions, Choice International, Optiemus and Maharashtra Scooters jump 6-10 per cent.

HCL Tech, AU Small Finance Bank, Havells, Cyient DLM and Waaree Energies shares continue to deliver significant price movements due to Q4FY25 results announced yesterday.

Tata Consumer Products, Bajaj Housing Finance, Dalmia Bharat, Tamilnad Mercantile Bank, 360 ONE WAM and LTIMindtree are among those set to announce results today. Track live updates

On the BSE, shares of HCL Tech, Choice International, Latent View, AU Small Finance and Coforge rally 7-8 per cent, while Jammu & Kashmir Bank plunged nearly 8 per cent. Hotel stocks such as Lemon Tree and Chalet Hotels also dipped following terror attack in Pahalgam in south Kashmir on Tuesday.
