For just $2 you can snag this much-improved Payday rival, which has a huge 2025 planned TechTricks365

If even Payday 3 struggled against the co-op heist might of Payday 2, Crime Boss: Rockay City had a Sisyphean task ahead of it. Originally launching in 2023 before coming to Steam a year later, it was marred by bugs, balance problems, and a perceived lack of content from the playerbase. Since then, however, Crime Boss: Rockay City has been steadily improving, and while it still might not be for everyone, it’s enjoying quite the resurgence right now. If you want to try it, you can currently nab the game at an incredibly steep discount and dive in with returning players.

When Crime Boss: Rockay City launched on Steam last year, we talked with head of development Jarek Kolář about the long journey the FPS game has been on. The co-op heist game clearly takes inspiration from Payday, but infuses that with cheesy ‘80s action stars and a roguelike twist, and it’s been on a big journey of redemption.

When Crime Boss finally came to Steam, it enjoyed quite the turnaround. The player response was positive, and it was much stronger than the initial 2023 release. Developer Ingame Studios isn’t slowing down throughout 2025 either, as it has an absolutely stacked roadmap planned. There are new heists, missions, character packs, weapons, and perks on the way. In fact, a “big heist expansion” is planned for December, with loads of all-new content to try out.

Yes, Crime Boss: Rockay City isn’t as popular as Payday 2, but since launch it’s grown from a maligned experience to quite the underdog. So if you’re looking for a cheap game to play with friends, especially one which has plenty of reasons to return throughout the year, this is for you.
