Japanese and Desi 150cc sporty commuters compared in detail: Here’s what we found
Yamaha recently launched the 2025 FZ-S Fi in India. It is one of Yamaha’s best selling motorcycles which offers a great blend of sporty looks and good mileage. Being a 150cc sporty commuter it competes directly with the Bajaj Pulsar N150. Lets compare these two motorcycles in images:
Design
The 2025 Yamaha FZ-S Fi retains its sporty looks and muscular stance, and is as appealing as before. It gets all LED lights with the front indicators integrated into the tank shrouds, giving it a more seamless design. It is available in 4 exciting colour options: Metallic Grey, Matte Black, Ice Fluo-Vermillion and Cyber Green, all of which goes well with the overall stance of the 2025 FZ-S.
The Bajaj Pulsar N150 shares its styling with two of its elder siblings, the N160 and the N250. It gets an aggressive design with its sharp body panels and a unique-looking headlight. When compared to the FZ-S Fi the Pulsar N150 is a much slimmer and compact-looking machine. The Pulsar N150 is available in only two colour options: Pearl Metallic White and Ebony Black.
Performance
The FZ-S Fi gets the same engine as before but it is now OBD-2B compliant. This 149cc single-cylinder, air-cooled motor makes 12.4PS at 7250rpm and 13.3Nm 5500rpm. This engine has been praised for its refinement, fuel efficiency and reliability.
The Bajaj Pulsar N150 gets a 149cc single-cylinder, air-cooled motor which makes 14.5PS at 8500rpm and 13.5Nm at 6000rpm. This engine offers great refinement and performance. On paper the N150 makes 2.1PS more than the Yamaha but the FZ makes its peak power and torque earlier down the rev range.
Underpinnings
The FZ-S Fi uses a diamond type frame and gets a chunky 41mm conventional telescopic fork along with rear monoshock with 7-step preload adjustability. It gets a 282mm front and a 220mm rear disc brake setup with single channel ABS. The motorcycle weighs 137kg (kerb) which is quite light for its category, and gets a 13-litre fuel tank.
The Bajaj Pulsar N150 uses a steel tubular frame along with 31mm telescopic fork and a rear monoshock with preload adjustability. It gets a 260mm front disc and a 230mm rear disc along with single channel ABS. Despite being a more compact looking motorcycle, when compared to the FZ-S Fi the N150 is 4kg heavier weighing 141kg (kerb). The Pulsar also gets a slightly bigger 14-litre fuel tank.
Features
In terms of features the FZ-S Fi gets an all LED light setup along with a digital console which shows all the crucial information and supports smartphone connectivity via Yamaha’s Y-connect app. It also gets SMS/call alerts while the application shows some very useful information like fuel consumption record, last parking location and more. It also gets a switchable traction control, a boon for newbie riders.
The N150 gets LED headlight and tail light but misses out on LED indicators. It gets an LCD screen which supports smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth and also gets SMS/call alerts. The motorcycle also supports Bajaj’s Ride Connect application which helps in connecting the smartphone, and shows trip information. Both of these 150cc commuters miss out on turn-by-turn navigation, which would have been a great addition.
Price
Yamaha has priced the 2025 FZ-S Fi at Rs 1,34,800 (ex-showroom Delhi), while the Bajaj Pulsar N150’s Twin disc variant costs Rs 1,25,862 (ex-showroom Delhi). This makes the Yamaha bike Rs 8,938 more expensive than the Bajaj.
BikeDekho Says
The 2025 Yamaha FZ-S Fi costs significantly more when compared to the Bajaj Pulsar N150. It’s worth it for those who are looking for a sporty Japanese 150cc commuter bike that offers great mileage (at the cost of outright performance). On the other hand, the Pulsar N150 is ideal for riders who want a great value-for-money bike with a balance between performance, features and mileage.
