2025 Triumph Scrambler 400 XC Vs Triumph Scrambler 400 X: Price, Features And Other Differences Explained | BikeDekho TechTricks365

More off-road oriented hardware for Rs 27,000 more

Triumph recently launched the more off-road centric Scrambler 400 XC in India at a price of Rs 2,94,147 (ex-showroom Delhi). It is Rs 26,940 more expensive than the Scrambler 400 X, and offers more premium and off-road oriented hardware. Lets have a closer look at the differences:

Design

Triumph has kept the design for the Scrambler 400 XC almost unchanged. It continues with its minimalistic retro modern design which suits the motorcycle quite well. Both the 400 XC and 400 X look visually similar but the 400 XC gets some new additions like a body coloured visor and a front beak.

These visual changes make the 400 XC look slightly more purposeful than the Scrambler 400 X. Though the design is more or less similar, the colour schemes really help set the XC variant apart from the standard version. The Scrambler 400 XC is available in 3 new colour options: Granite, Racing Yellow and Vanilla White. On the other hand, the Scrambler 400 X comes in Matte Khaki Green/Fusion White, Volcanic Red/Phantom Black, Pearl Metallic White /Phantom Black and Phantom Black/Silver Ice. While both bikes get coloured tanks, the livery on the XC is different from the X. The Yellow colour variant is our choice when it comes to the XC whereas the red one looks good on the X, in our opinion.

Engine

The Scrambler 400 XC uses the same engine as the Scrambler 400 X which is a 398.15cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor. It makes 40PS at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm at 6,500rpm.

In the Scrambler 400 X this motor has been praised for having an extremely refined riding experience and exciting power delivery. This motor also offers great low-end and mid-range grunt making it ideal for off-road riding.

Underpinnings

The Scrambler 400 XC uses the same frame as the Scrambler 400 X along with the same 43mm USD fork and rear monoshock with preload adjustability (both with 150mm wheel travel on both variants). The 400 XC gets spoke wheels rather than alloy wheels as on the 400 X, which should be better for off-road riding. The wheel configuration is kept similar as well with a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel, with tubeless tyres on both variants.

The Scrambler 400 XC also gets a lower engine guard as standard. On the other hand, the X variant gets a regular engine guard mounted near the engine head. Both bikes feature a sturdy aluminium sump guard. Both of these motorcycles use the same braking setup with a 320mm front disc and a 230mm rear disc brake with switchable dual channel ABS. The seat height and ground clearance  are similar as well at 835mm and 195mm respectively. With extra offroad-friendly bits, the Scrambler 400 XC is 5kg heavier than the Scrambler 400 X, at 190kg kerb.

Features

The Scrambler 400 XC gets the same set of features as the 400 X as it uses the same analogue speedometer with a LCD screen which shows all the important information but misses out on smartphone connectivity.

Both of these motorcycles get all LED lights, a USB-C charging port, ride-by-wire throttle along with switchable ABS and traction control system for better control while riding on rough terrains. The Scrambler 400 XC also gets adjustable levers which the Scrambler 400 X misses out on.

Price & Verdict

Ex-showroom Delhi Price

Triumph Scrambler 400 XC

Rs 2,94,147

Triumph Scrambler 400 X

Rs 2,67,207

The new Triumph Scrambler 400 XC is Rs 26,940 more expensive than the Scrambler 400 X and for the price it offers some aesthetic updates along with more off-road ready hardware. The premium is justifiable on paper considering the fact that the Scrambler 400 XC comes with not one but several updates to ensure a better riding experience while off-roading. But are these off-road oriented updates actually helpful? That’s something we will have to see once we get a chance to ride the motorcycle.

The Scrambler 400 X still makes a lot more sense for people who do not intend to take their motorcycle out for extreme off-roading. That said, the 400 X is still a very capable motorcycle for light off-road trail riding. It ticks all the right boxes and when compared to the XC variant, you won’t really miss out on anything major feature-wise either (except for the spoke wheels).
