It would be the perfect Aerox 155 rival in India
Honda has launched the 2025 Honda Vario 160 maxi-style scooter in Malaysia. The updated scooter comes in 3 new colour schemes. The new colours include a yellow, silver and a matte red shade. But out of the 3, we think the yellow one looks the best. Here’s a breakdown of what each colour brings to the table.
The Yellow colour scheme offers a yellow finish overall, with stylish graphics on the apron and side panel. This colour scheme is a bit flashy, and is perfect for those who are looking for something which will stand out. The new red and silver colour scheme on the other hand, look and feel a lot more subtle with just the paint finish and no graphics. Honda has added in a few premium bits like metallic badging, but other than that, the colours might look a bit too plain for some. It is geared towards riders who like simple paint schemes.
Powering the Honda Vario 160 is a 156.9cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine which outputs 15.3PS and 13.8Nm. For perspective, this puts it on the same level as the Yamaha Aerox 155 in terms of power and performance. The Aerox features a 155cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine which outputs 15PS and 13.9Nm. The Vario 160 gets a telescopic fork and a single-sided shock absorber. It rolls on 14-inch alloy wheels with disc brakes at both ends.
Features-wise, it gets a simple LCD instrument console which offers essential readouts like speed, time, odometer and trip meter. Other features on offer include Honda’s smart key technology and an anti-theft alarm.
The scooter is sold in Malaysia for a price of RM10,198 which comes to around Rs 1.98 lakh (ex-showroom) for the yellow colour scheme. We really wish Honda brings the scooter to India as a rival to the Aerox 155 as both of them are neck-to-neck in terms of performance. Even when it comes to styling, the Vario looks equally sporty. Additionally, the Vario will also be slightly more practical thanks to the flat floor-board as compared to the spine on the Aerox.
That said, it has to be noted that Honda India is very cautious with launches. The brand prefers to stick with tried and tested models like the Honda Activa and the Honda Unicorn. Although the maxi scooter market is currently growing in India, the number of enthusiasts who are interested in this segment may not be large enough for Honda to bring the Vario 160 to India.
